Ok, so you’re six months pregnant, look like you swallowed a beach ball, and you have an insatiable craving for chocolate with icecream. You want to be good, but you just gotta get the Chocolate Fix. Of course, if you are not pregnant, then that makes having a Chocolate craving even the worse – because you can’t blame the little bub – only yourself!
So back to the topic of this blog posting. As the buyer for the deeperShopping Christian Book Store, i come across all sorts of products designed for the inspirational, family friendly and Christian Markets. And one of the products I absolutely love is the “Mother To Be” Midnight Munchies Brownie Mix. For mothers-to-be, or those that live on the same planet as a mother-to-be (thats my way of qualifying, what’s yours?).
So, being the good product buyer that I am, it was necessary (sigh, i know, im just a workaholic at heart) to ensure that this product was everything it promised – ie Yummy.
Firstly, lets look at the product itself. Packaging is perfect. If you know someone that is having a Baby and you want to give them a little pick me up gift, then this brownie mix is sure to be a delight. Stick a hang tag on it and you have the perfect under $10 presentation.
Now, asthetics aside, on to the important bits – the all scientific and cullinary art of turning a box of brownie mix into something tasty. The package makes it clear that you will need 2 large eggs and 4tbsp of melted butter or margarine. If you are having a baby – skip the Marg and opt for all natural butter, you dont need those nasty whipped hydrogenated fats. Blend all the ingredients, and add the batter into a greased 8×8 tin. Bake at 350 degrees F (thats about 180C for you metric folks) for about a half hour.
Finally we get to the good bit, the taste testing. For our testing we tried the brownie plain, as well as with a frozen fat free organic yogurt from Stonyfield Farm, and a little whipped cream courtesy of Land-O-Lakes and a nice can of whipping cream. The results, quite simply delicious. The brownie has a slightly almond taste to it – which in combination with the chocolate is very tasty and reminds us of some of those wonderful almond cookies and cakes that come from Holland. Personally, its better with the Frozen Yogurt (or icecream if you must). We all loved the contrast of the hot and cold and the collision of flavors in the mouth.
Note, that this brownie mix does not include chocolate chunks, so if you like your brownie mix with chunks you may want to add in some good quality chocolate chips. Dont cheap out, if you are going to add the chocolate, use a good brand.
So all in all, i would rate this product a definate buy. And i think our customers have too. Because the first few cartons sold out pretty quick smart. Looks like the purchasing staff will be re-ordering. In the mean time i might grab another box from the warehouse – strictly for quality assurance purposes…..

Packaging : 9 out of 10 – Very cute, only drawback, its really oriented towards mothers-to-be. What about the rest of us???
